Harry and Meghan meet Bondi shooting survivors

On the fourth day of their visit to Australia, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex engaged with survivors and first responders from the Bondi Beach shooting, a tragic incident that occurred during a Hannukah celebration in December. The event, which saw 15 fatalities and 40 injuries, took place at a Sydney beach where the couple met with individuals who had bravely shielded their children during the attack.

Prince Harry and Meghan visited several eastern Australian cities, including Canberra and Melbourne, before arriving at the Bondi Surf Bathers’ Life Saving Club on Friday. There, they exchanged insights with Jessica Chapnik Khan and Elon Zizer, two survivors who recounted their experiences during the incident. The lifeguards at Bondi, recognized as heroes for their quick actions, also shared their perspectives with the couple.

A representative from the Sydney Jewish Museum joined the meeting, highlighting the significance of the event as part of an upcoming exhibition. The museum official described the royal couple’s presence as “really special,” emphasizing the emotional impact of their support. Later that day, the pair were greeted by fans at the Sydney Opera House, where they participated in a sailing event organized by Invictus Australia.

Prince Harry had previously announced Australia’s role in hosting the Invictus Games during his 2018 royal tour. The competition, which he established in 2014 for wounded military veterans, marks the couple’s return to the country since that visit. Their current trip, conducted in a private capacity, sees them no longer serving as official royal representatives.
