Hillary Clinton accuses Trump administration of a ‘cover-up’ over its handling of Epstein documents

During a BBC interview at the Munich Security Conference, former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton leveled accusations against the Trump administration, claiming it has engaged in a “continuing cover-up” regarding the release of millions of files linked to Jeffrey Epstein. She pointed to deliberate delays, the removal of names from key figures, and the obstruction of congressional inquiries as evidence of this strategy.

Justice Department defends transparency

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche has consistently maintained that the Department of Justice is “committed to transparency” and has “hiding nothing.” Despite these assurances, Clinton criticized the agency’s approach, emphasizing its reluctance to fully disclose information.

New documents spotlight Bill Clinton

The latest batch of files released by the DOJ included several mentions of Bill Clinton, shedding light on communications between his staff and Epstein, as well as his associate Ghislaine Maxwell. Clinton reiterated that she and her husband have “nothing to hide,” defending their involvement in the case.

Depositions and contempt vote loom

Both Clintons are scheduled to undergo closed-door depositions in the House’s Epstein investigation in February. The couple agreed to the terms set by the House Oversight Committee only after the chamber prepared to vote for contempt due to their refusal to comply with a subpoena. Clinton stated in the BBC interview that they are “more than happy to say what we know,” though she argued the information is “very limited and totally unrelated” to their alleged actions.

“I just want it to be fair, I just want everyone to be treated the same way. That’s not true for my husband and me,” she added, reiterating her push for public hearings.

“I think everybody should testify who is asked to testify,” Clinton said, suggesting scrutiny is being used to shift focus away from Trump.

Trump’s role in document release

Trump, who is cited over 1,000 times in the files, initially resisted publicizing the documents but later encouraged Republicans to approve their release late last year. On Air Force One, he claimed, “I’ve been totally exonerated,” and remarked, “They’re getting pulled in, that’s their problem.”

Testimony highlights administration’s tactics

Clinton cited Attorney General Pam Bondi’s recent testimony before the House Judiciary Committee as an example of the administration’s efforts to obscure the truth. She noted Bondi’s refusal to answer questions and her redirection of focus from Epstein’s victims.

Legislators criticize redactions

Epstein victims and congressional members have criticized the Justice Department for its inconsistent redactions of names and details in the released documents. After reviewing unredacted versions, some lawmakers alleged the agency was shielding powerful individuals, prompting the release of a list of “politically exposed persons” to Congress.

Previous statements mirror current claims

Clinton’s remarks echoed those of her husband’s spokesperson in December, who argued that the DOJ’s refusal to release all files was “not about transparency, but about insinuation.” This pattern underscores the ongoing tension between the administration and congressional investigators.
