Many of these allegations, according to the document, appear to have originated from unverified tips. The list was part of the millions of files released by the Justice Department on Friday.
Reason for FBI’s List Unclear
It is not clear why the FBI officials created the list of allegations related to Trump last year. The document was included in emails sent by officials from the FBI’s New York field office, which is part of the Child Exploitation & Human Trafficking Task Force.
Document Temporarily Removed from DOJ Website
Two versions of the document were removed from the Justice Department’s website for a time on Friday afternoon before being restored without apparent changes. A DOJ official explained the removal was due to “overload” and confirmed the file was back online.
Allegations Include Unverified Claims
The allegations in the document appear to be unverified, with officials noting that some are secondhand information. The FBI’s National Threat Operations Center received the tips, which were submitted electronically or by phone. The document also states that in many cases, no contact was made with the individuals who provided the allegations, and no contact information was given.
