The prime minister’s pivot reflects evolving political strategies within Labour. Initially cautious about revisiting Brexit debates, his focus shifted after polls showed declining public support for the referendum. This change also follows the Greens’ electoral success in the Gorton and Denton by-election earlier this year, raising concerns about Labour’s progressive base. While Starmer’s rhetoric now leans toward European integration, his core commitments to the post-Brexit framework—excluding single market and customs union membership—remain steadfast.
