Kanye West Delays Marseille Concert Without a Specified Date

Kanye West, the American rapper formerly known as Kanye, has delayed his concert in Marseille, France “without a specified date,” according to recent announcements. This follows the cancellation of the Wireless Festival in London, where West was set to headline, after the UK government barred him from entering the country. French media reported that Interior Minister Laurent Nunez was considering measures to prevent the June 11 performance, with a confidential source linked to the minister stating that the decision was “firmly intended.”

Historical Context of the Cancellation

The Wireless Festival’s cancellation last week sparked discussions about West’s recent public remarks. Over the past years, the artist has faced criticism for comments deemed antisemitic, racist, and pro-Nazi. In a statement posted on X, West emphasized his personal choice to reschedule the event, asserting that “my fans are everything to me” and that he “does not want to place them in the center of this.”

“I know it takes time to grasp the depth of my dedication to making things right,” he added. “I take full responsibility for my actions, but I aim to ensure my supporters remain unaffected.”

Upcoming Tour and Government Actions

West’s European tour, initially planned for the summer, now includes a list of performances in May, June, and July across Turkey, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, and Portugal. His schedule also featured a date in New Delhi, India, later in May. Despite this, French officials are still evaluating options to restrict his activities. Meanwhile, Dutch authorities confirmed no plans to block him, as reported by AFP.

Statements and Apologies

West has sought to re-enter public favor after issuing an extended apology in the Wall Street Journal in January. In the piece, he stated: “I am not a Nazi or an antisemite. I love Jewish people.” He attributed his past remarks to his bipolar disorder, claiming it caused him to “lose touch with reality.”

In 2022, he shared a post referencing “death con 3” against Jewish individuals. Later that year, during a podcast with Alex Jones, he described “good things about Hitler.” His 2025 release of the song “Heil Hitler” and sale of swastika-emblazoned T-shirts further fueled the controversy.

Public Good and Travel Authorization

The UK government cited West’s presence as “not conducive to the public good” when denying his travel permit. On the day of the Wireless cancellation, officials noted he had applied for entry via an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA), which is required for short stays under six months or for those without a UK visa status.
