Trump’s Christ-like Persona and Pope Dispute Fuel Rising Criticism
President Donald Trump has drawn increasing scrutiny after sharing a photo on Truth Social that portrayed him as a Christ-like figure. The AI-generated image, which was later removed, depicted the leader seemingly performing a miraculous act of healing a sick patient in a hospital setting. This post followed a critical statement Trump made about Pope Leo XIV, highlighting a recent tension between the two. The president clarified that he believed the image represented him as a physician, according to BBC reporter Sarah Smith, who is analyzing the fallout from this controversy.
Historic Lunar Mission Achieves New Distance Record
The Artemis II crew has set a milestone in space exploration, traveling farther from Earth than any humans in history during their nine-day orbital journey. After completing their mission, the astronauts returned to Earth, marking the end of a historic trip. Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen became the first to venture into deep space as part of this mission, a moment he shared with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The BBC’s Science Editor Rebecca Morelle interviewed the crew ahead of their anticipated splashdown, capturing their reflections on the experience.
“It is so great to hear from Earth again,” said astronaut Christina Koch upon reestablishing communication. The crew surpassed the Apollo 13 record of 248,655 miles (400,171km), continuing their journey further away from the planet.
Artemis II Commander Reid Wiseman, who lost his wife to cancer in 2020 at 46, shared personal insights during the mission. The crew, aboard the Orion spacecraft, spent the third day of their voyage navigating the Moon’s far side, while also conducting experiments and practicing spacecraft maneuvers. The mission, though not landing on the lunar surface, serves as a critical step toward NASA’s goal of returning humans to the Moon by 2028.
A rare public view of the launch was offered to passengers on a commercial flight, who watched from just three miles away as the most powerful rocket ever built took off from Florida. The event marked the resumption of crewed lunar missions after a half-century hiatus, with the team now in Earth’s orbit. The BBC’s Ione Wells reported on reactions from protesters and spectators at the Supreme Court hearing regarding Trump’s executive order, emphasizing the broader cultural and political context of the mission.
