Hospitalization and Recovery

GB News announced that broadcaster Eamonn Holmes is undergoing treatment in hospital following a stroke. The statement revealed he was “taken ill last week” and that “it was later confirmed he had suffered a stroke”. While details on his condition remain, the channel noted he “is responding well to treatment” and that “his colleagues and everyone at GB News wish him a speedy recovery”.

Career Highlights

Hailing from Northern Ireland, Holmes has built a broadcasting career that has spanned over four decades. His journey includes stints on Sky News, ITV, and GB News, where he currently co-hosts the breakfast show with Ellie Costello. Before joining GB News in 2022, he presented programmes on UTV’s Good Evening Ulster, then moved to GMTV for its debut in January 1993, remaining there until 2005. He later joined Sky News as a breakfast presenter and co-hosted ITV’s This Morning with his wife, Ruth Langsford, from 2005 to 2022.

Personal Life and Health

According to a 2024 spokesperson, Holmes and Langsford “confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing”. The pair had been married since 2010. Holmes, 66, has also shared his experiences with health challenges, including spinal surgery and a double hip replacement. He has used a mobility scooter for assistance, as noted in prior interviews.

Stroke Details and Symptoms

A stroke occurs when blood flow to a part of the brain is interrupted, as per NHS guidelines. Possible symptoms include facial drooping, arm weakness, and speech difficulties. Urgent medical attention is crucial if these signs are observed. Holmes was awarded an OBE for services to broadcasting in the 2018 New Year’s Honours List.
