Eamonn Holmes ‘doing OK’ after stroke, his son says
Declan Holmes, the presenter’s son, shared that his father is “doing OK” following a recent stroke. “We’re proceeding cautiously, step by step,” he stated, emphasizing the family’s focus on maintaining a stable environment for the 66-year-old GB News host. The statement, posted on Instagram, also highlighted the importance of privacy during this time, though Declan expressed gratitude for the public’s support.
“We’d really value a bit of privacy as we navigate it [sic], and what lies ahead, but thank you again for the support as it means so much to dad and the rest of the family,” he added.
GB News confirmed that Holmes was hospitalized after suffering a stroke last week, with the channel’s chief executive Angelos Frangopoulos describing him as a “loved member of the GB News family.” Frangopoulos reassured that the organization is “with him every step of the way as he recovers.” The statement also noted that Holmes was “responding well to treatment.”
A veteran in broadcasting, Holmes joined GB News in 2022 to host its morning show. Prior to that, he was a prominent figure on ITV’s *This Morning*, often partnering with Ruth Langsford, whom he married in 2010. The couple recently announced their separation, stating their marriage is over and they are divorcing.
Career and Health History
Before his role at GB News, Holmes had extensive experience across various networks, including Sky News. His career, spanning decades, has seen him take on multiple roles, such as hosting breakfast programs and discussing current events. In recent years, he has also addressed health challenges, including spinal surgery, a double hip replacement, and difficulties with mobility.
What is a stroke?
According to NHS guidelines, a stroke occurs when blood flow to a part of the brain is interrupted. Common symptoms may include facial asymmetry, such as one side drooping, muscle weakness in the arms, and speech difficulties. The family’s recent update suggests Holmes is currently experiencing these effects but remains in a stable condition.
Declan’s post included an image of him with his arm around his father’s shoulder, symbolizing their bond during this recovery phase. While the specifics of his health journey continue to unfold, the family has expressed confidence in the progress being made.
