Three-Month-Old Baby Girl Dies in Suspected Dog Attack
Incident in Redcar Under Investigation
Cleveland Police confirmed the death of a three-month-old infant after a suspected dog attack in Redcar. The event occurred at an address on Hardale Grove, Dormanstown, around 13:30 BST on Thursday. Officers arrived following reports of a child in peril.
Armed personnel shot two dogs—one on the street and another at the residence—during the incident. A 45-year-old man was detained on suspicion of allowing a dog to act dangerously out of control, leading to fatal injuries. He has been released under conditional bail.
Meanwhile, a 31-year-old woman was bitten on the arm and is receiving medical attention. Both canines were examined by a specialist officer and were not identified as banned breeds. The investigation into the incident continues, with police maintaining a presence at the scene.
“Our thoughts remain with the child’s family in the wake of this tragic event,” said Ch Supt Rachel Stockdale, head of local policing. “We are asking for their privacy to be maintained during this challenging period.”
Authorities are seeking any additional information, particularly video evidence, from the public to aid their inquiry. The BBC Tees team invites followers to connect via X, Facebook, Nextdoor, and Instagram for updates.
