Deadly Fire at Swiss Ski Resort Bar Claims Young Victims
Teenagers as young as 14 and 15 were among the victims of a fatal fire at a resort bar in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, according to police statements released on Sunday. The incident has sparked concerns about whether age verification procedures were adequately enforced at the scene.
Victims Identified and Initial Response
Valais canton police confirmed 16 additional victims had been identified, with their remains returned to families. All 40 individuals killed in the New Year’s blaze at the bar, which also injured over 100 others, have now been accounted for, including 20 minors. One person remains missing, while 23 are receiving or have received medical treatment. An ongoing transfer of an injured individual to France is currently underway.
Among the latest victims were a 14-year-old Swiss teenager, two 15-year-olds, two 16-year-olds, and a 17-year-old, along with two Italians aged 16 and a 16-year-old with dual nationality, as reported by local authorities.

The fire erupted at the bar around 1:30 a.m. local time, leading to a rapid loss of life. Authorities have since emphasized the youth of the victims, with the Swiss Confederation president, Guy Parmelin, noting that many of the deceased were “full of plans, hope and dreams.”
Community Mourning and Solidarity
“Countless people join us – people whose hearts are broken,” Bishop Jean-Marie Lovey stated during a church service at Chapelle Saint-Christophe in Crans-Montana, as relayed by Reuters news agency. “Many expressions of sympathy and solidarity reach us.”
The service was followed by a silent march to the town center, where attendees laid flowers and signed a book of condolences, as per the church’s website.
